PCCD’s 2018 CJAB Conference Begins at State College

Harrisburg, PA. — The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) Criminal Justice Advisory Board (CJAB) Conference began today at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, State College.  The two-day event features numerous national and local experts on criminal justice-related topics, behavioral health and treatment options.

“Over 400 people from across the Commonwealth have registered to participate,” Chairman Charles Ramsey said. “This type of turnout speaks to the great interest in our state in finding collaborative and innovative solutions within our criminal justice system.”

Over April 3rd and 4th, the conference will feature national speaker Dr. James H. Fallon, author of “The Psychopath Inside: A Neuroscientist's Personal Journey into the Dark Side of the Brain,” who will explore the neurological science behind psychopathology.  Retired Deputy Chief of Innovative Technology & Investigative Solutions, LLC, Mr. James Dill, will present information on masking Internet Protocol addresses and the Dark Web, and how everyday technologies are being used and misused to commit crime and avoid investigations.

Mr. Tracey D. Syphax, entrepreneur and author of the book, “From the Block to the Boardroom” will share his personal experience of the trials he faced from being a ‘common street hustler’ to the President and CEO of two multimillion-dollar companies.  The Victim Advocate, Jennifer Storm and Secretary of the PA Department of Corrections, John Wetzel, will also provide perspective on Finding Jenn’s Voice, a documentary film that examines the little-known fact that homicide is a leading cause of death during pregnancy.

The theme of the conference is “Collaboration and Innovation: Keystone of Success.”  It will feature specialized tracks for law enforcement, courts, reentry, and behavioral health through a variety of breakout sessions offered on both days.  A full agenda and summary of the breakout sessions can be found on the PCCD website.

“PCCD’s strength is in collaboration,” Ramsey said.  “We partner with behavioral health and treatment providers, with county practitioners and local non-profits, and our fellow state agencies, to bring all of these key stakeholders to the table to discuss how to help the criminal justice-involved individuals throughout our Commonwealth.  It is our hope that conference participants will learn from the information provided and from each other, and leave here with new ideas and renewed enthusiasm for the amazing work that they do every day.”
