Statement by
Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Chairman Josh Shapiro on
Lehigh County Gang Sentencing
Harrisburg, PA. — Chairman Shapiro released the following
statement on the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office first gang
enhancement sentence with the assistance of Pennsylvania Commission on Crime
and Delinquency (PCCD) funding.
“Today’s
announcement by District Attorney James Martin of the sentencing of Antanyia
Kaliesha Franklin, a member of the Frutown Brim Brick City Brim gang in
Allentown, for four to 20 years for assault demonstrates the value of the
Lehigh County Regional Intelligence and Investigation Center (RIIC). The RIIC
has enabled investigators to gather data about gang activity and ensure gang
members like Franklin are found, prosecuted, and kept off our streets. PCCD is proud to have provided $249,000 in
funding to the RIIC and we will continue to look for ways to help to support
both the RIIC and other criminal justice information systems.”
“I would
like to compliment District Attorney James Martin and his staff for their
diligent work to combat gang activity in Lehigh County and I have no doubt this
is only the first of many more successes to come. Today is a great example of
how PCCD and local law enforcement work together to ensure the safety of our
communities.”
Our Mission is to enhance the quality, coordination and planning
within the criminal and juvenile justice systems, to facilitate the delivery of
services to victims of crime, and to increase the safety of our communities.
