Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Announces Federal
Award of Nearly $1 Million for Victim Assistance Training
Harrisburg, PA. — The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD)
announced it will receive $930,000 in federal Victims of Crime Act funds to
support training for victim advocates and other allied professional in the
criminal justice, juvenile justice, and human services fields.
“It is critically important that we have
system-wide training on how to assist those who have been victims of crime,”
said Chairman Josh Shapiro. “This
funding will allow us to continue our efforts to ensure that advocates and
others have the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide necessary services
to crime victims.”
PCCD intends to collaborate with the PA Chiefs
of Police Association and other organizations to design and deliver
victim-related web-based trainings utilizing existing technological
infrastructures. To date, over 11,400 police officers have taken previously
funded web-based courses on domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual
assault, stalking and strangulation.
Some of the additional funds will be used to expand the number of
courses and prepare advocates and law enforcement on methods to address the
needs of victims of newly emerging crimes.
”This funding comes at an opportune time for
Pennsylvania as we begin our second phase of a statewide assessment of the needs
of crime victims in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro said. “We are poised to plan, design and deliver
trainings that will equip victim advocates to meet the needs of victims in the
21st Century.”
