Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency Approves Grant
for Delaware County Forensic Supportive Housing
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD)
recently approved $100,000 for the Delaware County Forensic Supportive Housing
Program. This award is a joint funding effort between PCCD and the Department
of Human Services’ Office of Mental Health Substance Abuse Services.
The primary goal of this
program is to enhance re-entry and diversion opportunities by increasing the
availability of Supportive Housing units for persons with mental illness and
co-occuring disorders who are involved in the criminal justice system. Funds
will be used for a comprehensive array of housing support services. This
project will ensure that permanent sustainability occurs in this population
with the aim of attaining permanent federal subsidies from the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development.
“This project, and
projects like it, is an important part of our mission to
reduce recidivism rates by identifying those individuals with mental health and
addiction issues and get them the help they need so we can prevent their return
to the criminal justice system,” said PCCD Chairman Josh Shapiro.
