School Safety and Security Committee Opens
School Safety and Community Violence Prevention Solicitations for FY19-20
Harrisburg, PA. — The School Safety and Security Committee (Committee) established within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) by Act 44 of 2018 released $60 million in School Safety and Security Grant Program funding announcements today. Potential applicants are encouraged to review the solicitations on PCCD's Open Announcements webpage.
Specifically, there are three separate funding announcements. School districts are eligible to apply for the "2019/20 School Safety and Security – Meritorious" application ($18.72 million) for a wide range of school safety activities. School entities, including any school district, intermediate unit, area career and technical school, charter school, cyber charter school, regional charter school, approved private school, chartered school for the education of the deaf or the blind, or private residential rehabilitative institution are also eligible for "2019/20 School Safety and Security – Competitive" funding ($33.78 million). Finally, $7.5 million is being made available for municipalities, counties, institutions of higher education, and community organizations for the "2020 Community Violence Prevention/Reduction" application.
Activities and items allowed by Act 44 include performing school safety assessments; purchasing security-related technology and equipment; supporting school safety-related and behavioral-health trainings; preparing all-hazards plans; hiring school resource officers, school police officers, school counselors, social workers and school psychologists; and providing for trauma-informed approaches to education.
To help applicants this year, PCCD has developed online Grant Application and Administration Guides that provide detailed, step-by-step tutorials on how to apply for a grant through PCCD's Egrants system. This webpage will be updated periodically with webinars and information as needed.
