2005 Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS)

The 2005 survey instrument also came in two versions. Questions about gambling were also included in the survey. Also for the first time in 2005, the PAYS asked respondents about prescription medicines and their use for nonmedical purposes (PCCD, 2006, p. 11). The 2005 survey included questions on feelings that can be symptoms of depression, and those results were now included in the accompanying report (PCCD, p. 11). A new development for 2005 was that schools were given the option to administer these surveys in two formats: as hard copy survey booklets or as an Internet-based survey. In 2005, 10.2% of the surveys completed were by the Internet-based method.
