2024 CJAB Conference

"An Evolving Justice System: Adapting and Navigating New Directions"

When: April 9-10, 2024

Where: The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, State College

What: The 2024 CJAB Conference "An Evolving Justice System: Adapting and Navigating New Directionswill bring together criminal justice, behavioral health, and treatment partners for what promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking one and a half-day event.  We have an exciting line-up of national and local experts who will discuss new and reemerging issues impacting our criminal justice and behavioral health systems, providing innovative strategies and collaborative solutions to meet the challenges ahead.

We are pleased to feature new plenary speakers this year!

Thaddeus Johnson, PhD, will join us to discuss "Breaking the Cycle of Community Violence through Holistic and Effective Evidence-Based Practices", where participants will hear how implementing intelligence-driven policing, community intervention, public-private partnerships, and sensible legislation can address the allure of street life and urban gun culture contributing to felony violence in neighborhoods.

In "What 50 Years Has Taught Me: A Story of Addiction, Death, Redemption, and Hope", Jason Snyder, Director, Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association (RCPA), will add color and perspective to a history lesson on addiction ignorance, treatment, stigma and progress and make recommendations for where we need to go in the future.

Susan Burton broke free of a life trapped in her harmful past, addiction and the criminal justice system but gaining her life back was just the beginning. She felt compelled to help other women stuck in the cycle of incarceration and continues to do so to this very day. In her "S.A.F.E." plenary, Ms. Burton shares her story with audiences of all backgrounds in hopes to reach those still struggling to find their way home.

We will also be joined by Joe Roberts, a former homeless addict. In "From Skid Row to CEO",  we'll hear how within twelve years of leaving the streets, he became a highly succcessful entrepreneur.

In addition to these engaging plenary sessions, we will feature several break-out sessions covering topics such as racial and ethnic disparities, community supervision strategies, reentry, trauma, and a session focused on Navigating Your CJAB Forward: Creating Proress Out of Change, among many other engaging workshops.

Who: The conference is open to all CJAB members, criminal justice, and behavioral health practitioners.  Plenary and breakout sessions feature universal appeal to all criminal justice and behavioral health professionals, including both introductory level material as well as innovative new concepts.
